Hi John,

it's great to see you keep improving vidifold constantly!

The Displacer plugin only seems to work in "Source In" mode (0.31.9/0.31.10). Every other option of the "Source In" button is red, clicking them changes nothing. I put a clip/image in the bottom slot, started it, muted it and selected the bottom slot from the "Source In" menu, but it still shows "Source In", no visible change in the output.

Perhaps I don't understand how to use it correctly? I believe Displacer distorts the input by itself ("Source In") or another slot or Bus output that can be selected from the menu that appears when clicking on "Source In", right?

Awesome, thanks a lot!

Only things I noticed so far were:
- Audio state plugin preview looks just black (perhaps there could be a default sine wave or something)
- Trails and Dieback plugin lets the preview look much darker than it actually is when playing it.
Anyway, it's a huge leap forward!

Works now, thanks!
By the way, would be nice if the snapshots would get assigned to a "snapshots" bank.

Hi,

seems like rotating a clip with "Pos Scale Rotate" or "Surface Movement" does not rotate around an axis perpendicular to the view but a skewed one, so rotating will result in distortion.

#7 Re: Archive » Output plugins are not saved » 2021-11-28 21:37:33

Never used snapshots so far. The button in the clip hamburger menu does not seem to do anything? The number of clips in the library stays the same.
What is the idea behind it - quickly saving a setup without having to duplicate the slot?

Aux patches are great, I was just thinking that saving single slots would help structuring/generalizing the code for saving and also add the ability to name an effect since getting a preview for plugins without source is problematic. On the other hand, descriptions of effects might get lengthy and cumbersome, so not the best idea after all.

Looking forward to the inclusion of the output setup in the startup patch.

Hi,

just found another segmentation fault: vidifold 0.28.6 crashes when dragging an FX bundle from a slot with source plugin to the AUX patch.

From my point of view, the general user expectation is that everything gets saved. So if it is a live only slot, then it should be visually distinct from other slots.

If it can be saved, instead of saving it together with Bus A or B, I would save it separately. It would not even need to be a patch, it could be something that gets automatically saved and restored. Or, ideally, it could be a (sourceless) single slot patch that can be restored either to a slot on the rack or a bus or an Output.

Hi,

currently, when the slots are not playing, they display just the source without plugins. In my case, many slots are based on the same source and it is quite difficult finding the right one, I have to drag every slot to the workbench or do other stunts to see what is what. So it would be great if the inactive slots on the rack would display a still of the actual output including all activated plugins.

You already seem to have the functionality: the preview of the patches shows the real content of the slots.

Hi,

In contrast to the bus plugins, the plugins applied to the output are not saved.

#12 Re: Archive » No visual indication for most plugins in the slots on the Rack » 2021-11-24 18:22:55

Thank you!
Perhaps the playhead at the bottom of each slot could be hidden if there is no clip to play, that way the "empty" slots look more empty (almost like before) and there is more visual difference to slots that contain a source and are ready to play.

#13 Re: Archive » No visual indication for most plugins in the slots on the Rack » 2021-11-21 17:37:05

I just used plugins without source for tracking down bugs, but I believe that consistency is important and also I don't want to risk loosing work.

So even if it is not immediately useful, I think that the presence of a plugin should be indicated in the same manner in all cases. Otherwise if you put a couple of plugins into a slot and forgot in which one, you would have to check every single one of the seemingly empty slots. Or even worse, you would not think of it, close vidifold and loose it since slots with plugins but no source are cleared on exit.

Having an option would be nice, but I do not see the downside of making this the default behavior without an additional checkbox. The blue background would still indicate that it is not usable, but the red square would indicate that there is something there - and maybe the exit dialog needs a warning that slots without source will be cleared.

The red indicators at the bottom of the slot previews on the Rack are only shown if there is a source or source plugin present. Therefore, a slot with e.g. just a normal brightness plugin looks empty.

On the workbench, the indicators work fine, even if a "normal" plugin is added to the workbench or if a slot with a "normal" plugin is dragged to the workbench.

If the Zoom plugin is used on an image source with an alpha channel, the edges of the alpha will stay behind (don't know if that could be a separate switch since it does not always look bad).

vidifold 0.28.3 will crash if a slot with
- Noise plugin (without videoclip)
- brightness plugin (without videoclip)
- AudioState Mk2 plugin (without videoclip)
- Colour Gradient plugin (without videoclip)
- Grid cross plugin (without videoclip)
- superspot plugin without videoclip
- brightness plugin without videoclip
- png image with alpha channel
- jpg image
- empty slot
is dragged from the rack to the workbench. Probably applies to all cases without clip source.

#18 Re: Archive » X Eject sometimes removes all plugins at once » 2021-11-12 22:27:50

Yes, I think it was only on source plugins, but that was quite surprising, so it is better now that it has been removed from the effect slots, thank you.

Hi,

in some cases, using the "X Eject" from the ^ menu on the top left of every plugin ejects all plugins of the active slot at once in vidifold 0.28.1.

Hi John,

is it possible to reset the position of the configuration window (Configuration & Tools - Configuration)? Somehow it's top part is off screen and I can't seem to move the window down. It keeps the position even after restarting vidifold.
The same goes for the "this plugin is not available" window.

#25 Archive » Can't restore Bus B in 0.23.7 » 2020-10-28 19:10:46

Hi John,

just after switching to 0.23.7, I lost the (only) clip on rack B, autosave on exit and restore were active in 0.23.6 and also in 0.23.7.
Bus A was restored successfully. The preview icon for "Startup Patch: Bus B" shows the clip and correctly lists the plugins, but I can't load it in either bus (I click load to B, dialog closes, but the clip is not there).
I cloned and renamed the patch to save my clip, but I also can't load the cloned patch.
The clip contains three plugins including SuperSpot and since this plugin is still not saved as standalone clip, perhaps there is a problem restoring it?
After closing vidifold and reopening it, the clip is no longer contained in the startup patch.
Unsuccessfully trying to load my cloned patch does not generate errors on the console.

Testing a simple clip without any plugins shows that nothing can be restored to Bus B. But in this simple case, the patch could be loaded to Bus A and in the same moment, it also showed up in B (but after restart, it is gone again and the trick does not work again).
